Description: The San Luis Obispo Wine Country 200K begins and ends in San Luis Obispo.
This a reduced version of the Wine Country 300k, it shares the first 150km with the 300k/400k and those routes rejoin this one after they do 75km up and back to Ragged Point and it skips some the loops at the end of the 300k/400k.
The route crosses SLO and climbs over Cuesta Grade into North County on the Hwy 101 shoulder, climbing 1200 feet in about 3 miles. Exit after the downhill on the other side for a pleasant ride up El Camino Real through Santa Margarita and Atascadero, before going out to rural Templeton Rd, passing horse ranches and wineries. Pass through Templeton with its tall grain building and Paso Robles on the way to the first info control before San Miguel. San Miguel is a good place for early lunch. Then, head over to Paso Robles west side, where the wineries are located in hill country. Beautiful rolling hills for about 25 miles finally lead to Hwy 46, where you climb over the coast range to Cambria. This is where the 200k splits from the 300k/400k and heads back down the coast with hopefully a tailwind thru Morro Bay and back to San Luis Obispo via Los Osos Valley Rd.
